Last weekend saw me witnessing the finest of autom

Last weekend saw me witnessing the finest of automotive on the legendary Belgian track that is Spa-Francorchamps. There, hundreds of cars raced for 3 days, on 8 distinct championships. I’ve had the absolute joy of spectating the track full of classics from the 50s to the mid 2000s, including DTM cars of the golden era, winners of Le Mans, and the amazing team @navyblue.rt , whom I sincerely thank for hosting me during the event. I fitted them with a race timer and an action camera, see footage above 😉

⭐️New device available⭐️

I’m very proud to present you today the fruit of more than two years of development, with this on-board computer! A replica of the 13 button device originally available on e30s, it has the same look and some of the same functions, with the addition of several new ones, such as :

⏱️ Time/Date, stopwatch
🏁Lap and 0-60 timer, accelerometer
💨GPS speed and overspeed alarm
🛣️Trip distance
🌡️Temperature and oil pressure, with overheating alarm
⚡️Voltmeter
🛰️ Heading and altitude

As on the original OBC, the LED display is amber, the keypad is fully backlit (based on the cabin lighting), and the device has the same texture as the dashboard. The device is designed to reuse either the clock connector or the 6/13 button OBC connectors, so the harness consists solely of the optional temperature and oil pressure sensor wires.

Installation and operation are explained in a detailed pdf.

Here is the latest requested part I’ve had the pleasure of working on !
A few weeks ago, @mon57r reached to me about a display mount he wanted for the ( insanely clean ) e30 M3 he currently builds.
The display in question is a 3.5 inch touchscreen made by JT innovations, that can connect via CAN bus to a variety of standalone ECUs to display all kind of engine data, and even to switch between calibration maps. Cool stuff.

As the plan was to fit the display on the dashboard, in the clock / On board computer slot, I modeled the mount by simply reusing the dimensions I already had from the OBC project,and adding a slot for a Richter support.
The result is both very cool looking and convenient, it rocks so well with the rest of the build 🤩

It is now common for racing championships to impose a minimum pit stop duration. To comply with this requirement, many drivers use basic stopwatches that are not made to be used with racing gloves, nor to be installed in race cars.
To fix this, a team entrusted me with the mission to develop a timer, which, through the activation of a toggle switch, allows for easy timing of the duration spent in the pit stop.

The wait is over as yesterday was finally the coll

The wait is over as yesterday was finally the collection day of the 318is at the body shop, where she received a complete rust removal on both doors, rear fenders, trunk and battery tray, before getting repainted.
The whole process took months as we literally kept finding hidden corrosion everywhere🥲
But hey that thing now looks so good l'm terrified to drive it, so it sure was worth the wait, I'm very glad! 😄

With the e30 being stuck at the body shop for the

With the e30 being stuck at the body shop for the last 3 months, and all the new parts waiting for the car to be tested or advertised, I needed to find an interesting project to work on.

So let me present you this little pit timer!

It is a toggle-switch operated timer designed for a racing driver who reached me with this idea. He needed an easy way to track the elapsed time when entering the pit lane, but conventional timers were difficult to use with his racing gloves. Therefore, he wanted a solution that featured a toggle switch. Additionally, he wanted it to be battery powered, with a USB-C charger, all packaged in a small form factor that could be easily secured with screws or zip ties.

From an engineering standpoint, I didn't start from scratch as I incorporated multiple components and software from the OBC. The most challenging aspects were miniaturization and implementing the battery charging circuitry, as it was my first time working on these areas.

Operating the device is straightforward, as requested, with a single timing function. However, I am considering adding new features such as a GPS to make it a lap timer, or modeling it for specific car interiors.

So it’s already been nine months since I last posted here… As you may have guessed, the reason for my absence is that I left my workplace in France to go study in California!
I didn’t know how to keep posting there, as I had no way to keep doing what you follow me for. Ok, I may have designed a thing or two, but I had no car to prototype on, nor printer to produce with. So I just stopped everything, except maybe spending as much time around cool cars as possible. It wasn’t too difficult for me thanks to the mind blowing car culture California has to offer. Still, I really missed drawing, printing and selling stuff.
But now that I am back home, it’s time to reopen everything!
